Hi, my name is Laurie and I have an addiction. No, I am not talking about my scrapbooking supplies, although I know I have a definite problem there. I am talking about home decor items. You should see the amount of Christmas decorations that are about to take over my household. I have been trying to limit my spending on Christmas decorations because I have so many, but it is hard when it is around every corner starting in July. So I have moved onto another season--Fall.

The last two years I have been drawn to all things Fall. When I saw Crystal's November Collection featuring the "Happy Little Owls", my heart melted. I knew I needed to give an owl a home in my house.  I created this fun little wreath to hang in my house as a nesting spot for my hooting little friend. You can make your own and I will show you how.

I purchased a flat wooden wreath from my local arts and crafts store.

I wanted the whole wreath to be covered in a nice chocolate brown ribbon. I started by securing one end of my ribbon with hot glue.

Then I wrapped the ribbon around the entire wreath, overlapping the edges as I went and pulling the ribbon tightly until I covered the entire wreath. I finished by securing the end of the ribbon with hot glue. I also tied a hanger for my wreath out of the same ribbon.

I picked up these fun buttons in different sizes and colors to decorate my wreath. I loved that this button pack had traditional fall colors as well as some brighter pinks and blues to spice things up a bit.

I alternated the sizes and colors of the buttons all the way around the wreath. Again I secured the buttons with hot glue.

Next I opened up my furry little friend in Photoshop Elements 8. I used one of the 4inch owls and resized him to 6 inches. To do this go to Image > Resize > Image Size. With the constrain proportions box checked, I changed the height of my owl to 6 inches and clicked ok.

I decided that I also wanted to saturate his colors to match the vibrancy of the buttons I used on my wreath. This is an easy technique and one that you can use on photos. In the layers palette, right click on your owl layer and chose duplicate layer.

Then, with your top owl layer selected, in your blending mode options chose soft light from the drop down menu. You can adjust the opacity of this layer to determined how saturated you want your image to look. I left mine at 100% to really play up the colors.

I then flattened my image, printed it, and cut it out. My owl was a little bit to flimsy to put on the wreath just as a cardstock image. I glued him onto a piece of chipboard and cut him out. This piece of chipboard is one that I saved from when I had some 12x12 layouts printed at Costco.

I wanted to jazz up my owl a little bit. I added some Stickles to the spots on his wings. Have you checked out Stickles? It is an awesome product. It is just like glitter paint, but much more user (and scrapbook) friendly. It is a fun little way to add a little extra touch to your projects.

I let my owl dry overnight and then I glued him onto the wreath. He is now sitting in his happy home on my wall, and I am a happy girl with yet another home decor item in my collection.

Amy, I got them at Michaels. They weren't in the scrapbook section. They were in with the special shape buttons over by where the kids' craft stuff is. They came in a bag of all those colors and sizes. smilies/smiley.gif
