Oh Shoot 2!: Advanced Composition

Class begins June 3rd - July 6th (with a break from June 17th - June 23rd)
$132 - Standard class: Unlimited enrollment.
$182 - Extended class: Limited enrollment. Includes comments from the instructor on your photographs. (Seats fill up quickly so register promptly at 9PM EST on May 20th)

**PLEASE NOTE! It is required to have taken Oh Shoot and have a working understanding of manual settings on your camera for this class.**
We only have one week to learn all about composition in our ever-popular and highly-reviewed beginning photography course, Oh Shoot. And while we touch base on many compositional rules and tips, I get comments from students stating that the one week could be a great class in and of itself! So after many pleas from students to develop an entire course about the artistic side of taking a photograph we have relented and developed:
Advanced Composition - Person, Place, Event or Thing
In this class we will:
- Review in more detail basic compositional rules
- Address color theory and how it affects the mood and look of a photograph
- Learn about photographing an editorial portrait
- Learn about how to photograph an event
- Learn about compositional rules when photographing a location
- Learn tips about tabletop (small items) photography techniques
The course is five weeks long (with a 1 week break), with an assignment, video, and PDF lesson each week. And remember, unlike other photography websites, once you own your class, there is no time limit to the materials! They are yours to come back and study any time you would like!
As a bonus, we have live chats each week with the instructor and two teaching assistants, as well as a class forum where you can ask questions and receive help anytime throughout the class!
Candice Stringham is an editorial photographer turned scrapbooker. She is a former Contributing Editor for Creating Keepsakes Magazine and was inducted into the Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame in 2006. Candice Has a BFA in Photography and taught at a collegiate level after she graduated. She has also been teaching live workshops for Canon for the past few years. She is excited to be teaching at Jessica's website because helping people learn how to use their cameras is one of her greatest joys! Adventurous, but down-to-earth, Candice loves to read, watch old movies and musicals, read anything Jane Austen and create fun projects and traditions with her family. Nancy Riley: "God has blessed me with a loving and extremely tolerant husband, as well as two beautiful little boys. They were, of course, a major motivating factor for me to learn to take my photography skills to a higher level, as I couldn’t very well hire a live-in professional to always be there when the boys dress up as superheroes or dunk basketballs with Daddy’s assistance. I first learned to shoot on my dad’s manual SLRs, with the assistance of the camera manual and an old Kodak Guide to Taking Better Pictures. Many camera models, library books, back issues of photography magazines, and blog articles later, I still learning how much I can improve. I’ve left a trail of thousands of over-analyzed outtakes, but at least since I went digital, they’re not taking up landfill space anymore. Working with Candice has been a wonderful opportunity. I love helping others improve their own photography skills and expand their understanding of how the camera works. It’s actually much easier to answer straightforward questions about the physics of light behavior than answering questions about, let’s say, “How did Uniqua run up to the clock tower and open the door so fast to beat the ping pong ball there? Why did the ball catch fire and go through Pablo’s paddle? How did paddle go back to normal in the next scene?” Answering questions with actual answers is really rather therapeutic."
Kimber Hodson: "To the rest of the world, I’m a stay-at-home-mom. However, when I enter the Spraground my alternate identity comes out, and suddenly I become KBear, Photography T.A. After passing the baby stage with our five children, my husband decided to pursue his long-awaited master’s and doctorate degrees. We decided that it was only fair that I fulfill some of my dreams as well, so I bought a DSLR and signed up for Oh Shoot! I was already hooked on the Spraground, and had admired Candice’s work for some time, so there was no doubt in my mind whose class I wanted to sign up for. A year later I found myself in the role of one of Candice’s T.A.s. I still pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. Photography and scrapbooking are two of my passions.
